Try wrapping the figures in newspaper, and then put them in a cardboard box full of more newspaper. Leave them in there for about a week, and then remove them and throw out the paper. The absorbent paper will leach out a certain amount of the chemicals causing the odor, but it's impossible to say if it will eliminate the smell completely. Newspaper also works for taking smells out of other plastics like coolers and plastic food containters.
